Gather is a platform for preserving life stories through photos and memories. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and are committed to complying with all applicable laws regarding the detection, reporting, and removal of such content.

Our Legal Obligations

As an electronic service provider operating in the United States, Gather is subject to federal reporting requirements under 18 U.S.C. § 2258A. We are registered as an Electronic Service Provider (ESP) with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).

Detection

Uploaded images are checked against known CSAM databases using perceptual hash matching. This process compares image fingerprints against databases of known illegal content without viewing or analyzing the actual content of legitimate photos.

Reporting

When suspected CSAM is identified:

  1. The content is immediately quarantined and made inaccessible
  2. A CyberTipline report is filed with NCMEC within 24 hours, including all required information (file, metadata, account details, IP address)
  3. The uploading account is immediately suspended
  4. Relevant evidence is preserved for at least 90 days as required by law
  5. We cooperate fully with law enforcement investigations

Preservation

Upon identification of suspected CSAM or receipt of a preservation request from law enforcement, we preserve all relevant records including:
